Is it time for a Conservative Party?

Recent commenters have expressed their dismay with the power-drunk, spending-mad Republicans on Capitol Hill and their embrace of the big government agenda.
I share that dismay.
Perhaps it's time to reassert conservative principles on a national scale by the threat of a national Conservative Party.
I don't know about that for sure, but just a warning shot across the bow of the Good Ship GOP Spending Spree might not be such a bad idea.
The caveat: We don't want to follow the example of the Democrats, who have basically been taken over by the extreme left. Those are folks I, for one, don't want anywhere near the levers of power. It's a time when realpolitik must come into play. I don't like that, but the frustrations are building.
Perhaps it's better to allow the left to keep marginalizing itself and go on from there.
Debate welcomed.
